Viking merchants
If you were a Viking merchant and owned a boat
you could increase your fortune. You could sail to a better sales
town. Viking River routes were very helpful. They led from the Baltic Sea
to the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea in Asia . With their river routes
they could get far inland. Viking merchants sold furs from the Baltic and
rope made from walrus hide. They also sold slaves and walrus ivory and
amber cured meat and dried fish and much more. Today we go to shopping
centres or markets. In Dublin or back then called Dyflin the markets
were on the street. Two main streets were Winetavern street and Fishamble
street. One of the big markets was the Cornmarket which can still be found
in Dublin.

VIKING RAIDING
The first Viking raids on Ireland were in 795. They raided monasteries
on Lambay Island. They also raided the island of Inishmurray and Inisbofin.
Monasteries were good targets that provided rich picking like holy goblets
and garments. Some objects found in scandinaviel. That were seized as booty
on raids a scottish or irish religuary looted to a jewel box
,a silver dish that was formerly a sacred church vessel , a brooch , a
gold scabbard end and a belt end , both of celtic workmanship
