The Swallow

SWALLOWS

The Latin for Swallow is Hirundo Rustica. The Swallows arrive in March or April. In October they have to fly back to Africa with a huge distance of about 9,000KM to the exact same nesting spot. Swallows usually rest on beams in barns or in holes in walls. A Swallows nest is shaped like a half cup and is made from mud and straw. Swallows feed on Flies and small Insects they find in the air. Swallows can eat up to 3,500 insects a year. You would notice a Swallow by the blue sheen on its back and v shaped tail which makes them fast and acrobatic fliers. Before A Swallow leaves for Africa they gather in flocks on rooftops and wires.
