Smólach The Song Thrush
Turdus Philomelos
The song thrush is common all over Ireland. It is mostly seen in parks
and woods. It is brown with light brown spots on its breast. Its tail is
also brown. If you see a thrush in the garden cocking its head to one side
you may think it is listening to something but it is actually looking for
a worm. Thrushes come to us from Britain and Scandinavia every summer.
The song thrush eats snails and worms. The song thrush is 23cm long. The
song thrush starts nesting in March. They build their nests in hedges and
sometimes in old tea- pots. The song thrush lays blue eggs with black spots.
Thrushes only live in their own territories.
INTERESTING FACTS.
The Song Thrush is a very smart bird. It is so smart that when it wants
to eat a snail it cracks open the shell on a stone.. These stones are called
