The Sparrowhawk
THE SPARROWHAWK
The sparrowhawk is a bird of prey. The sparrowhawk's Irish name is spioróg. The sparrowhawk eats small birds. The sparrowhawk is found throughout Ireland usually in woodlands and remote areas. The female is much bigger than the male. Both sexes have clear yellow and black bars on their tail. It has a brown back with a white breast. It has superb eyesight and very sharp talons for catching its prey. Sometimes the sparrowhawk dives through trees and bushes after its prey.
