The Pheasant

Coilleach coille;      Pheasant;         Phasianus Colchicus;

There are 50 species of pheasant. They will eat seeds, berries and insects. In Ireland they are mostly found in moors. The male is 76cm long and the female is 53cm. They are very hard to see.The Latin name for a pheasant is phasianus colchicus.The female pheasant will defend  her terory. She will lay 8 to 15 eggs. The eggs are olive brown in color. The male is shot for fun. I don’t think this is good and it is shot for its meat. They spend most of the time roosting on ground. The male pheasants colour is red bronze with a dark bottle green neck and a red face. They are found in fields, woods and marshes in Ireland. 200,000 pheasants are shot by hunters each year.
