The Kingfisher

Cruidín       The kingfisher    Acedo Atthis

The kingfisher is one of Irelands  most colourful  birds. He has very shortred legs. The Kingfisher is more common in the eastern part of the countryand lives beside lakes and rivers. It sits on favourite posts and branches. From there it dives onto small fish in the lake or river below. When it is eating the fish he eats the head first. It is 17cm long an it has a heavy bill and it is very pointy too. Not many people have ever seen a Kingfisher. The Kingfisher has very good eyesight. Large prey are beaten off a rock. Then they are tossed up into the air so they can be swallowed more easily.
