Kilcorbry

Kilcorbry when translated to Irish is Coill Cairbre. This means Carberry's Wood.

Griffiths valuation tells us that most of the land in Kilcorbry in 1853 was owned by John Haslem.The people who lived there at that time were; William Higgins. John Delaney, Judith Murphy,James Murphy, Honoria Mara, John Smollen, Brian McCormack,Mary Cuskelly,John Rigney, Michael Troy, Brian Nolan, William Geoghan, John Flynn, Matt Kelly, James Mulheeran and Catherine Gannon. The total area of Kilcorbry is 200 acres and John Haslem owned 150 acres at this time.
The Famine affected Kilcorbry. In 1841 there were 120 people living in 20 houses. In 1851 there were 98 people in 16 houses. Some surnames still exist around Kilcorbry like McCormack, Egan, Rigney and Troy. In the early 1900's the council was widening the road they found human skulls and bones. It was said it was a medievil village.Today there are 33 people living in 10 houses.
