The name for Down in Irish is An Dun.
This means the Fort. There are 444 acres in Down. The Grand Canal
flows through it. There is an old mill which was owned by the Mulligans
in the 1800's. The mill was used for grinding oats into meal. It was
driven by water which flows through Down. There is a ring fort
in Down. There were high walls around it to protect the farmers from
wild animals. There is an entrance at the back which goes in about
3 metres, but no one is permited to enter. At the top its like someone
scooped a lump out of it.
