Dipper
This is the only species of Dipper found in Europe. It is identified by
its dark plumage and its brilliant white breast and throat. It has a short
stumpy tail. Dippers can swim and dive, but are called dippers because
of the way in which they bob up and down as they perch on boulders in streams
or rivers. The dipper dives underwater and walks along the bottom of the
river or stream. It eats insects larvae or fish eggs.
