Derrycoffey

Derrycoffey gets its name from the Irish Doire Ui Choffaigh. This means Coffey's Oak Wood. There was once an oak forest there but it is gone now. There is a small evergreen forest there where spruce  trees grow.
In 1853 some of the people who lived in Derrycoffey were; John Fleming, Owen Callaghan, Christy Dunne, Thomas Donohoe, Thomas Troy,Christy Royle and Patrick Quinn. The two biggest landowners in the area were Samuel Jessop and William Berry. The only names remaining in the Croghan area today are Dunne, Donohoe, Troy and Quinn. In the 1940 an ancient road was found in Deerycoffey though some of it was burned some can still be seen in the nationl museum today.

The population of Derrycoffey at present is 8 and there are 3 houses.
