The Blue Tit
 
The Blue Tit is a dainty bird who is commonly found in gardens. Other members of the Tit family are the Great Tit the Coal Tit and the long-tailed Tit. The Blue Tit is smaller than the Sparrow and is much more colourful. The Blue Tit has a blue cap,a yellow breast and white cheeks. Some people call the Blue Tit a “Tom Tit”. His Irish name is”Meantán Gorm” and his Latin name is”Parus Caeruleus”. He likes to eat grubs,insects and nuts. They are fond of bird tables and like chopped fat and nuts. They are not so fond of crumbs because too many make them sick. Blue Tits make their nests in holes in walls and stumps. The nest is often lined with wool. The female Blue Tit is called the Hen she lays as many as ten eggs. The eggs are white with red spots. The Blue Tit is 11.5cm in length. You can find Blue Tits in hedges and shrubs. Blue Tits are well 
known for their abilty to open the tops of milk bottles.
