In Irish Barrysbrook is Sruthan an Bharraigh. It got its name from a family called Barry who lived there. There is no family with that name in Croghan now. There is a little stream there which joins the Yellow River and eventually flows to the Boyne. There is a ring fort in Barrysbrook, in Eustace's field, which was a children’s burial ground. There is a standing stone in O' Brien's field. This is called Clustucha. It is in two halves now. The top half measures 1.5 metres by 0.75 metres and is 0.4 metres wide with a slanted top. The bottom half is 0.5 metres by 0.75 metres and is 0.5 metres wide. There were 11 houses in Barrysbrook with 36 people living there in 1998. There are now 13 houses in Barrysbrook and 46 people living there. By; Cliodhna Molloy |
