Aghmore

Aghmore is sometimes spelled Aghmore, Aughamore or Amore. The name means the Big Acres. The population of Aghmore was 11 and there were only 3 houses there in 1998. The families who lived there were Collins, McCabes and Egans. The Collins family used to live down Aghmore Lane at a place better known as Polly's Piers. Mahons lived where Collins live now. In 2001 there were 4 families living in Aghamore and the population is 15. Leo Troy bought the house where Paisleys used to live.Bolgers are now living there and there are no Egans. 
There was a family called Whelehans who lived in Aghmore where McCabes have their cattle pen now. The Dunne family later lived in this house.
There is a small river called the Stick in Aghmore. It flows into the Grand Canal and it is the boundry between Croghan and Daingean. The Famine had an affect on the area. The population in 1841 was 87. In 1851 it was 54 and in 1861 it was 43. In 2004 the populatioun is 21.There are 8 houses in Aghmore.
